Amazon Tribe Creates 500-Page Traditional Medicine Encyclopedia

An Amazonian Tribe have revealed the secrets behind their traditional medicine, in a 500 page long encyclopedia, which is the first of its kind. The Matsés of Peru and Brazil have provided a written record of their ancient practices for the first time in history. The Acaté Amazon Conservation is a non-profit organization, and has helped in the creating of the document, which lists every single plant the tribe uses for healing.

The sacred Amazonian medicinal techniques have been passed down from generation to generation, and it’s believed that they possess a deep knowledge of a wide range of treatments western medicine hasn’t even heard of. Since western influence has done its part, and many tribes have ceased to practice their techniques as a consequence of being told by missionaries that they’re ineffective, the project to record them in written form is a way of preserving these ancient methods. It’s very important to write it all down before it’s gone forever.

The work took 2 years to complete, is transcribed in traditional Mastés language, and for the time being there is no plan to translate it into English or Spanish, so as to further protect the Mastés ancient secrets.
